UKHF responds to Government Spending Review
Date26 November 2015
Year 2015
In response to the Government’s Spending Review, UK Health Forum CEO Paul Lincoln commented, “We are pleased to hear the Government’s commitment to the NHS Five Year Forward View but to turn the rhetoric into reality, this must be backed up with continued investment in public health to tackle the major drains on the health and care services such as obesity, smoking, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The Government’s decision to further cut local authority budgets in England, which include public health, is short-sighted and detrimental to the health of the nation. Considering the OBR findings of escalating and unsustainable costs in the NHS, UKHF calls on Government to increase investment in prevention of avoidable non-communicable diseases and implement revenue raising, population-level healthy public policies to achieve short- and long-term cost savings. Increasing investment in primary prevention will support a healthier, more productive workforce across the country.”
