UKHF response to International Development Committee’s Inquiry: Sustainable Development Goals
Date10 September 2015
Year 2015
Summary
The new SDGs have two major points of departure from the MDGs i) they are universal and apply to all countries and ii) they have a strong focus on policy coherence and tackling the system-wide barriers which have prevented low and middle income countries (LMICs) from making progress on development. Examples of these barriers have included reduced national income arising from illicit financial flows, tax evasion and avoidance, and unfair trade rules.   In recognition of these important distinctions, the UK government needs to develop an overarching cross-government strategy on sustainable development which outlines how it plans to support the implementation of the SDGs in LMICs and achieve the goals which are directly applicable to the UK.  Read the full response through the link below.
