UK Health Forum comments on review of evidence on e-cigarettes by Public Health England
Date19 August 2015
Year 2015
Jane Landon, deputy chief executive of the UK Health Forum said:
“We welcome the review of the evidence commissioned by Public Health England. It provides clarity for both smokers and those providing stop smoking services about the relative safety of e-cigarettes compared to tobacco smoking, and the potential for smokers to switch to e-cigarettes as a means to help them quit all forms of nicotine use for good.
“We are encouraged that concerns about e-cigarettes providing a route into smoking for children and non-smokers are not so far being realised. But we strongly endorse the importance of regulation for e-cigarettes to ensure their safety and to put in place appropriate controls on their sale and marketing. There must also be vigilant monitoring of their use and development so that any emerging risks from e-cigarettes that could in future undermine efforts to end the smoking epidemic will be addressed.”
