Emphasis on prevention in new health plans welcomed by UK Health Forum
Date23 October 2014
Year 2014
UKHF welcomes the priority on preventing avoidable ill-health that is at the heart of five year plans published on 23 October for the NHS and Public Health England. We call on Government to get fully behind a commitment to improving public health and introduce policies such as minimum unit pricing for alcohol and standardised packaging for tobacco that are needed to support the planned actions by the health services and wider public health workforce.
The UKHF modelling department produced a report for PHE that projected future trends in obesity, smoking and salt consumption to 2034 and tested the impact of different scenarios on future burden of related NCDs using a dynamic, dual module microsimulation mode. Links to the full report are below.
