UKHF response to DH consultation on standardised packaging of tobacco products
Date06 August 2014
The consensus of medical professionals, public health and other relevant experts is that standardised packaging would make an important positive contribution to reducing the harm caused by tobacco consumption and that the Government should lay Regulations on standardised packaging, under Section 94 of the Children and Families Act, before Parliament as soon as possible as there is now only a short time available to do this before the 2015 General Election. The Government should resist efforts by the tobacco industry and its surrogates to delay decision-making and laying of the regulations before Parliament.
