SACN releases draft Carbohydrates and Health report for consultation

Summary
The Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) consultation on its draft Carbohydrates and Health report is open for scientific comment from 26 June to 1 September 2014.  It has reviewed the evidence on the effect of carbohydrates (including sugar) on health and recommended that current sugar intake levels should be reduced from 10% to 5% of energy. 
 
In response to the SACN’s report, Public Health England (PHE) has released its own discussion paper reviewing the research  and is making a commitment to reduce sugar intakes in the population.
