UK Health Forum submission to Department for Education consultation on revised standards for food in schools
Date23 April 2014
UKHF strongly supports the need for robust national school food standards to improve children’s health, education and well-being, to tackle the burden of NCDs in later life and to reduce inequalities in health and opportunity.
We recognise that standards must be easily understood and straightforward to implement. However, we have some concerns about the impact of moving away from the current nutrient based standards. Therefore we look forward to seeing more detail about how the new standards will be monitored and evaluated and what steps will be taken to ensure that the standards are as widely implemented as possible.
