UK Health Forum applauds House of Commons vote on important tobacco control legislation
Date10 February 2014
MPs and public health campaigners are celebrating a major Parliamentary victory today (10 February), after the House of Commons backed new legislation to help prevent children from starting to smoke.  In response to the vote, UKHF CEO Paul Lincoln said: “This is a huge victory for tobacco control and public health in the UK. We know without a doubt that tobacco use is a significant risk factor for non-communicable diseases. And is a contributing factor to rising burdens, health and social care costs from these diseases. We also know that children and young people are vulnerable to both exposure to tobacco use and the marketing of tobacco products. We applaud ASH’s hard working in seeing this legislation through.”
