Policy team profiles

Modi Mwatsama - Director: Policy & Global Health 

Modi is responsible for the UKHF’s policy portfolio on NCD prevention and global health. Her professional areas of expertise include food, alcohol, obesity, sustainable development, global health, and public health advocacy and implementation at local, national and international levels. She previously worked for the Global Research Network on Urban Health Equity at University College London and Heart of Mersey – England’s largest cardiovascular disease prevention programme.  Modi is a Registered Nutritionist (Public Health) and sits on the Council of the Association for Nutrition and the Health Improvement Committee of the Faculty of Public Health. Recent national advisory committees she has served on include Public Health England groups on dietary guidelines, sugar and global health. She holds a Doctorate in Public Health and is an Honorary Assistant Professor with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Hannah Graff - Senior Policy Lead

Hannah assists in managing the UKHF portfolio of NCD prevention policy and global health research, development and advocacy, as well as managing the Healthy Places resource. Her professional areas of expertise include physical activity, the built and natural environment, obesity, HIV/AIDS, health inequalities, sustainable development, and policy development and advocacy. Prior to UKHF Hannah held several positions in public health policy research and development in the US. She is a member of the International Society for Medical Anthropology, holds a MPhil in medical anthropology and a BA in anthropology. Hannah is currently studying for a Doctorate in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. 

Chris Brookes – Director: Global Business Development / HEPP Manager 

Chris has extensive experience of international public health, business development, and project design and management, and has worked in the public health field for 16 years, and for the 10 years prior to that worked in development, including leading on statutory donor funding for a major UK development charity. He has focused particularly on actions to address health inequalities internationally, and led Equity Action, the Joint Action between Ministries of Health in the EU on Health Inequalities from 2010-2013.  He has also been working closely with international colleagues on reducing alcohol related harms.  In his previous job he was Director for a not-for-profit organisation which fostered learning between countries in what works to improve health and tackle health inequalities. He built up the portfolio of work, many with the UK Health Forum, to include several projects which brought together partners and stakeholders to improve health. He has worked with several parts of the EU, Inter-American Development Bank, World Bank and World Health Organization. Prior to that he was  International Project Manager for Health Inequalities in the Department of Health for England. In addition, Chris has been the national focal point for the European Commission Public Health Programme.

Rebecca Stacey - Policy and Communications Assistant

Becca joined the UK Health Forum in 2018. She provides Policy and Communications support to both the UK Health Forum, and Obesity Health Alliance. She also volunteers as a research assistant for Citizens Advice Westminster’s Policy and Campaigns team, and has previously worked as a Policy and Campaigns assistant at the British Youth Council. She has a BA in African Studies from SOAS, University of London.
